auto start/stop removes the friction of remembering to record. it’s a combination of two features:
  • auto-start (requires google calendar) - counts down and starts recording when a calendar event begins
  • auto-stop - stops recording when no speech is detected for a configurable duration

auto-stop

even without calendar, auto-stop prevents forgotten recordings from running forever. configure it in settings → recording:
optionbehavior
offrecording runs until you stop it
3 minstops after 3 minutes of silence
5 minstops after 5 minutes of silence
10 minstops after 10 minutes of silence
15 minstops after 15 minutes of silence
when a calendar event ends, miniti shortens the silence timeout so recording stops sooner - meetings end on time, not after 15 minutes of post-call silence.

auto-start (requires calendar)

  1. connect google calendar (see google calendar)
  2. enable auto-start in settings → integrations → google calendar
  3. when a calendar event is about to begin, a countdown banner appears with start now and dismiss options
  4. if you do nothing, recording starts at the event time
dismissed events are tracked so they don’t prompt you again.

platform differences

  • macos - the countdown runs in the background. whether miniti is focused or not, recording starts at the event time.
  • ios - the countdown only runs while miniti is in the foreground. when the app is backgrounded or the phone is locked, the ~60s-before meeting reminder notification is what pulls you back in to start recording.

meeting reminders

independently of auto-start, miniti can fire a local notification ~60 seconds before each calendar event. enable it in settings → notifications. works on both macos and ios; useful on ios even if you don’t use auto-start, since the app can’t run a countdown in the background.

tips

  • combine with auto attio sync so meeting summaries land in the right record with zero clicks
  • use auto-stop even without calendar - it’s a cheap safety net
